Toby C
Piano, Music Theory and Composition
Toby is a professional pianist, composer and arranger with 14 years of experience. He is a graduate from the University of Birmingham with a Music degree, has completed ABRSM grade 8 classical training and has studied his passion of jazz under teachers such as Gareth Lockrane, Toby Boalch, and Jonathan Silk. He works in a variety of settings, including solo functions, small ensembles, big bands, rock/pop groups, orchestras, and pit bands.
Musically, Toby's playing and teaching both span many genres thanks to his varied training. He has a strong emphasis on ear training, harmony and theory, developed in the Yamaha music school system. Having studied for classical exams, on the junior jazz programme at the Royal Academy of Music, and playing in theatre pits and pop function bands, he is able to tailor lessons to match the interests of his students.
Toby believes that the number one key to success in learning music is nurturing a love for your instrument, so his lessons will focus on finding a pathway for his students that complements their passions and learning styles. He brings his experience in many different areas of music to offer practical advice and useful exercises, as well as being flexible to support his students' journey with a holistic approach.

"I came to Toby with a background in classical piano, looking to develop my playing in jazz. Toby was a huge help; friendly, knowledgeable, and full of practical tips. Would highly recommend!" - Charlie L, student.
